How Industry Can Benefit From Going Green

Going green is a term that everyone has heard and a phrase that encompasses a lot of ground. To go green can mean something as simple as using less water, reducing the amount of trash you expose to the landfill or even just turning off the lights when you leave the room.

One of the most impactful and simplest ways to start going green, is to use LED (light emitting diode) lighting. Older industrial light sources include metal halide, HID, or fluorescent fixtures. LED lighting uses much less electricity than these older technologies.  There is virtually no cost to maintain LED lighting because they do not require bulb changes.  Traditional light sources require constant upkeep with bulb and ballast replacements.  This is a serious strain on landfills and the environment as they all contain mercury and lead.

So How Can Industry Benefit

Industrial spaces are made up of warehouses, factories and offices. All of those buildings are chock full of old fluorescent, metal halide, and HID lighting fixtures. Replacing the old lighting in these buildings with new LED technology will not only help save the environment, but also save your company significant sums of money.

By choosing LED lighting, a savings of 50% to 90% on their energy consumption will be witnessed first hand. Also, maintenance costs for replacing bulbs and maintaining older fixtures will practically disappear as the LED lights have a rated life of over 100,000 hours. That is 11 years of continuous usage or +20 years for most business running a two-shift operation. These two factors alone show how beneficial replacing your old fixtures with new LED ones will lead to huge savings.

Other Benefits Of LED Lights

Besides saving your company money, LED lighting for your warehouse, factory or office have these additional perks:

    • Environmentally friendly – LED lights contain no mercury or lead
    • LED lights are quieter (no humming)
    • They also reduce cooling costs as they have less heat output
    • LED lighting is easier on the eyes as they put out a full spectrum of light
