EcoZohm LED Lighting Testimonial

EcoZohm’s DLC rating was a big factor in our decision to use their product. The fact that Baltimore Gas and Electric covered 50% of the entire cost helped as well.

We replaced outdated T12 fluorescents with the MG-XFL product in our warehouse and noticed an immediate improvement. We are looking forward to many years of maintenance free lighting and reduced energy costs.”

Are You Taking Advantage of LED Lighting Utility Rebates?

Are You Taking Advantage of LED Lighting Utility Rebates?

A Crash Course on Saving Money and Improving Efficiency

Utility bills are often overlooked when business expenses are considered. But that might be the biggest mistake you could be making. After all, not only can you stand to save huge amounts of money by switching to more energy efficient lighting alternatives, you’re also leaving money on the table when you consider all the local and federal tax incentives, subsidies, and utility rebates available.

So if you’re worrying about your cash flow, ask yourself this one question: Are you taking advantage of utility rebates? With so many available, not educating yourself can be like shooting yourself in the foot. Here’s a crash course on how to take advantage of rebates to both improve cash flow and the environment.

Why do Utilities Offer Rebates?

It’s a strange prospect. Don’t utilities want to keep growing and make more money? Well, yes and no.  Making more money may be one thing, but reducing costs can be just as effective – and frankly, we’ve reached a point where making the most efficient use of current energy infrastructure is much more cost effective than building more.

Besides, utilities aren’t greedy monolithic corporations – they have just as much an interest in preserving the environment as the rest of us, and they’re in one of the best positions to encourage energy conservation and efficiency.

Rebates don’t Last Forever

Rebates constantly change and grow. Each program typically exists on a first-come first-served basis and run until either the funds set aside for the program are exhausted, or the timeline expires.  With that in mind, it’s important to take advantages of rebates on the table as soon as they appear on your radar. Otherwise you could be left waiting for the next one to start.

Rebates you can Take Advantage of Now

At the moment, utility companies nationwide are offering rebates on DesignLights Consortium qualified LED lights. The DLC has been keeping a running list of high quality, high efficiency LED products for commercial usage since 2010, and now you can save even more money with these lights.

Choosing an Industrial LED Light: DLC Qualified Products List

November 18, 2013

DLC QPL

Since 2010, Designlights Consortium®(DLC) has put out the Qualified Products List (QPL), a resource to help commercial and industrial customers find the right LED product.  The DLC QPL is the leading resource that distinguishes high quality, high efficiency LED products for the industrial sector. The DLC is a centralized place for manufacturers to submit products for qualification and for utility company energy efficiency program administrators to insure only high performing products are used in their incentive programs. The DLC sets the bar for efficiency incentive programs in both the U.S. and Canada, while insuring only the best quality LED products are certified. The DLC offers information, education, tools and technical expertise for new lighting technologies.

In a push that continues to reward the use of LED luminaries, rebates and incentives are available with the purchase and installation of DLC QPL approved items. Visiting the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency gives access to a comprehensive and state-by-state list of rebates and programs by federal, state, and utility companies. This database makes a great cross reference against the QPL, for commercial contractors. Most rebate programs are one of two types: prescriptive or custom. A set amount for each fixture is given in a prescriptive program. An amount based on a project’s total projected energy savings is given in a custom program.

It is predicted that $7.4 billion to $12.4 billion will be available for rebate programs by 2020. To date, over 44 states have utility rebate programs that will dramatically lower the upfront cost of implementing a new energy-efficient lighting system. Some custom programs can pay up to 75% of the total project cost. These programs are administered by individual utility companies and vary widely in their incentive approach. The http://www.dsireusa.org/ website contains the most update information for each program.

Contact us for more information about how to use the DLC QPL to select the best products and rebate programs for your project.
